So we have had a few rainy days here in the south, and it is hard to convince the boys that the rain should stop the from wanting to play outside. So last Wednesday they were eating supper and it began to pour outside. I pushed their chairs to the door to allow them to watch the downpour. That wasn’t enough. They wanted out of their chairs to watch the rain. That wasn’t enough. They wanted the door open so they could stand inside and watch the rain. That wasn’t enough. They wanted to stand outside under the awning where they still stayed dry but were closer to the rain. That wasn’t enough. Sawyer, being the fearless leader, began playing in the rain. Braddock kept telling mommy that Sawyer was doing wrong, but finally he too gave into his toddler urges and began playing in the rain.. Before long they were in their diapers only, and not long after that, there were 2 naked boys running around my back deck. In the rain. Having a blast.
So my plan backfired of showing them that they didn’t want to play outside while it was raining. They had the time of their short lives playing and I think they now secretly hope for rain everyday. We teach them to play in the sprinkler and the splash pad, so why should rain be off limits?
